Many distressed fishermen rescued in Hoang Sa islands waters
PANO - Ship SAR 412 of the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) safely towed fishing boat QNa 91468 TS with 49 fishermen on board to Naval Fleet 48’s port in Quy Nhon at 5:00 pm on May 14.
Previously, at 4:00 pm on May 9, the boat, captained by Hoan Trieu Vy from Tam Giang commune, Nui Thanh district, Quang Nam province, went adrift due to engine failure while operating in the waters Southeast of the Hoang Sa islands. After the engine failed to be restarted, at 9:28 am on May 11, the captain contacted the MRCC to ask for assistance.

Having received the information, the center immediately sent ship SAR 412 to the scene.
After traveling 400 nautical miles at top speed, the SAR ship approached the troubled boat at 8:30 am on May 13 when the boat’s food and fresh water supply had almost run out and many fishermen were in poor condition. The fishermen were then quickly transferred to ship SAR 412 for medical care.
Later on, the rescue ship towed the boat to the mainland.
