A project to set up a conservation area of mangrove forests in Tra Vinh Province has been carried out by the Provincial Forest Management Department with a capital of nearly VND 5 billion.

The conservation area covers 650 ha in Long Khanh Commune, where 450 households are mainly living on aquatic products extracted in natural conditions under forest cover and the funds allocated to them for forest protection.

The area is considered the main concentration of mangrove forests in Tra Vinh Province, and is a place where many animals live, especially birds and salt-water organisms.

Along with forest conservation, the project will also establish a 10ha-tree nursery to provide seedlings for other areas. A system of forest ranger stations based on the household economic development plan will be built in the area.
