Chairman Vu Dai Thang expressed his belief that with its thousand-year tradition of civilization, Hanoi will become a model “Learning City” and a beacon of intellect and humanity in the region and the world. He also emphasized that the youths should be the pioneers in this knowledge revolution, learn to know, learn to do, learn to live together, and learn to affirm the Vietnamese identity in the international arena.
At the event, Jonathan Wallace Baker, UNESCO Representative to Vietnam, emphasized that Hanoi’s official recognition as a member of the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities is both an honor and a responsibility.
Becoming a member of the network is a well-deserved recognition by UNESCO and the international community of Hanoi’s creative efforts in building an inclusive learning society where lifelong learning opportunities are available to all, ensuring no one is left behind. The title opens opportunities for the capital to exchange knowledge and experience, as well as attract investment and educational cooperation with other “learning cities” worldwide, thereby promoting sustainable socio-economic development.
Beyond honoring past achievements, the event reaffirmed Hanoi’s commitment to UNESCO and the international community to continue innovating policies, expanding cooperation, developing high-quality human resources, and striving to build the capital into a “Learning City - Creative City - Sustainable City” for the people.
