At the “Preparing a Future Technology Workforce” workshop held by the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) and the Australian Embassy, experts also discussed students’ preparations to join the information technology workforce.

Speaking at the debate, Nguyen Thi Kim Phung, Director of the Higher Education Department under the MOET, said the fourth Industrial Revolution has created a lot of opportunities but also challenges for different countries, including Vietnam.

Graduates should have high professional qualifications and working skills, but also research skills to promote their creativity and innovation. To achieve this, training courses at higher education institutions needed innovation in order to improve the quality of students and researchers, she said.

Professor Duncan Bentley, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the Australian Swinburne University, said the university connected students, researchers and enterprises to co-resolve complicated problems, show new solutions and forecast different situations for the future.

The university supplied background for research with the participation of enterprises. It coordinated service users, students and researchers to join the first stage of a production to test potential, he said.

At present, Vietnam has 235 universities, of which 153 train information technology. About 50,000 information technology students graduated per year, according to the MOET.
