Distressed trawler saved at sea
PANO – Ship SAR 412 of the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center Region II (Da Nang MRCC) successfully saved a distressed fishing trawler with eight men on board at 9:00 pm on Sept. 8.
Previously, at 3:40 pm on Sept. 7, the center received a mayday signal from Pham Thanh, captain of trawler DNa 90397 TS, from An Hai Bac ward, Son Tra district, Da Nang city. He informed that his ship’s propeller shaft had broken and could no longer move when fishing at the Vietnam-China joint fishing ground, about 130 nautical miles North of Da Nang City.

His crewmembers failed to fix the problem and the ship went adrift due to strong winds and rough seas, he stressed.
After receiving the information, the center immediately sent messages to call on fishing ships operating nearby to assist the distressed trawler and sent Ship SAR 412 to the scene.
At 2:00 am on Sept. 8, the rescue team of Ship SAR 412 reached the distressed trawler and saved eight fishermen on board.
The fishermen were then taken to Ship SAR 412 and given medical treatment. Their trawler was also towed to shore safely at 9:00 pm the same day.
