Competition on disaster prevention, control launched
A competition on disaster prevention and control was launched in the central city of Da Nang on November 25, drawing 12 teams from cities and provinces that are outstanding front-liners in the fight against natural disasters at the grassroots level.
The week-long event was co-hosted by the Standing Office of the National Steering Committee on Disaster Prevention and Control under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s Vietnam Disaster Management Authority (VNDMA) and the Vietnam Television for the central and Central Highlands (VTV8) with the support of the U.N. Development Program (UNDP) and the U.N. Women.
Speaking at the event, Doan Thi Tuyet Nga from the organizing board said the competition is expected to encourage public involvement, contributing to mitigating disaster risks in localities.
A total of 16 game-shows, including 12 qualifiers, three semi-finals and one final will be broadcast for a duration of 30 minutes each show in early 2022, she added
The same day, deputy head of the committee and VNDMA General Director Tran Quang Hoai presented the Prime Minister’s certificates of merit to two collectives and two individuals in recognition of their dedication to raising public awareness of disaster prevention and control. The Vietnam News Agency bureau in the central and Central Highlands was among those receiving the honor.
