The conference follows an initiative proposed by Deputy-Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh, which was approved at the 13th ASEM Ministerial Meeting last November in Myanmar.

This conference is one of the most important inter-regional events on climate change. It is also the first ASEM initiative in its third decade of cooperation on climate change response toward sustainability.

The event also demonstrated ASEM's pioneer role in effectively implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the commitments in the Paris Climate Agreement on climate change. This is an opportunity for ASEM countries to exchange their experiences, good examples and to propose practical and responsible policies in line with the member countries’ concern on climate change responses, especially for poor and developing countries.

The ASEM conference also offers a chance for Vietnam, especially for 13 Mekong Delta provinces to consult and cooperate with leading experts on climate change, so as to have human and material support from developed countries, to implement cooperation programs on climate change adaptation, technology transfer and more.

According to the organizing panel, the event saw the participation of more than 200 delegates from 53 ASEM countries.

The conference will close on June 20.
