Earlier in July 2021, the Red Cross Society of Thanh Hoa province received 1,000 multi-purpose life jackets from the VNRC Central Committee.
Since then, the VNRC Central Committee has coordinated with local authorities, relevant units and agencies to provide 800 life jackets for disadvantaged fishermen in the districts of Quang Xuong and Hau Loc, Sam Son city.
On November 14, former State President Truong Tan Sang handed over 200 life jackets to poor fishermen and those in extremely difficult circumstances in Quang Nham commune.
The multi-purpose life jackets comprise heat-retaining clothes, helmets, glasses, whistles, flashlights, and dry provisions.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, the former State President underlined that the program aims to support Vietnamese fishermen in safeguarding national sovereignty over seas and islands.
In addition, he expressed his hope that Quang Xuong commune particularly and Thanh Hoa province generally would soon expel the COVID-19 pandemic and restore economic development.
For its part, the Thanh Hoa provincial Red Cross Society also expected that the former State President and other sponsors would continue to support 9,184 sets of multi-purpose life jackets to needy fishermen, helping them feel more secure in conducting their missions.
