Speaking at the event, Major General Vo So, Chairman of the association, stressed that over 23,000 troops sacrificed their lives, 30,000 wounded and dozens of thousands were exposed to Agent Orange (AO)/ Dioxin during the Vietnam national resistance war.
They were honored with many noble titles of the Party and the State, including the Hero of the People’s Armed Forces, the Ho Chi Minh Order, and the Sao Vang (Golden Star) Order. The association was established in 2011 under the Government’s approval in a bid to promote Truong Son soldiers’ heroic traditions as well as pay tribute to fallen soldiers, and now it has over 310,000 members in total.
At the meeting, PM Phuc recalled his memories on the contributions and sacrifices of Truong Son soldiers at a time when he had a chance to pass Truong Son trail 50 years ago. He also highly valued the association’s operations and contributions to the national development over the past time and hoped that they would continue bringing into play their heroic traditions and contributing more to the national construction and development. The government leader agreed with the association’s proposals and promised to direct relevant agencies to solve all pending issues at the soonest time.
