On November 2nd, the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) launched nationwide an English Olympic Contest on the Internet (IOE), as one of the twelve activities jointly held by the MoET and the Vietnam Television Corporation (VTC), in Hanoi for pupils in grades of 3 to 12.
The contest aims to boost IT application for teaching and learning in high school, to set up an English online playing ground for pupils in primary and secondary schools, and to create conditions for pupils to get access to and use the Internet as a studying tool, as well as to create a favorable atmosphere for them to exchange their experiences.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Vinh Hien, Deputy Minister of Education and Training, said “Through this contest, you will be keen on studying a foreign language, especially English. It will pave the way for you to get access to global intellectual channels and become a global citizen in the future”.
Pupils can take part in the contest by logging on to www.ioe.com and following instructions. Apart from official exams at school, district, provincial and national levels (only for 5th and 9th grade), there are 26 self-study rounds for them. They will know their results right after finishing their exams.
“In the past few days, the numbers of people accessing ww. ioe.vn. has soared. To make the contest successful, our staff are ready to help contestants, to follow what happens in the contest, and to keep technical facilities running smoothly,” said Mr. Phan Anh Tuan, Vice Director of VTC Online and Director of the Vietnam Internet Project.
