Despite difficulties at the beginning of the 2020-2025 tenure, Hue fulfilled 14 out of the 15 targets set by the 16th congress. The most historic milestone during this period was the former Thua Thien Hue province becoming Vietnam’s sixth centrally-run city. Among the 34 provinces and cities nationwide, Hue is the only locality in Vietnam and Southeast Asia to possess eight UNESCO-recognized world cultural heritages, including six belonging solely to it and two shared with other localities.

In 2025, Hue is hosting the national tourism year program. In the first seven months, the city welcomed more than 4 million visitors, and is aiming for 6 million tourists and 11-12 trillion VND (416.77 - 454.66 million USD) in tourism revenue by the year’s end.
Tourism recovery, infrastructure development, and stronger investment attraction have spurred Hue’s economic growth at an average annual rate of 7.54% during the tenure, higher than the national average. Compared to 2020, the city’s economy has expanded 1.7 times, with per capita GRDP in 2025 reaching 3,200 USD, and the poverty rate falling to 1.15%.
The 17th congress has set the goal of building a strong and clean Party organization and political system; maximizing the strength of the entire population; and mobilizing and efficiently using resources to turn Hue into a distinctive heritage city of Vietnam, and one of Southeast Asia’s major cultural, tourism, and specialized healthcare hubs by 2030. It also aims for Hue to become a national center of science, technology, and multi-disciplinary, high-quality education and training, as well as a strong maritime economic hub, while ensuring solid defense and security and improving people’s living standards.
Regarding overall solutions to realize these goals for 2025-2030, Standing Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Binh said the city will focus on perfecting mechanisms and policies to attract investment in a proactive and decisive manner, prioritizing modern technology and “green,” sustainable production; developing high-quality human resources to meet the demands of the technology era; and investing in infrastructure to generate breakthroughs and widespread impacts in development.
