After the third consultation conference, there were 165 qualified NA candidates introduced by the Party Central Committee and 715 candidates proposed by localities throughout the country, bringing the total number of nominated candidates for the 12th National Assembly (NA) election to 880.

The Central Election Council (CEC) conducted its 4th session in Hanoi on April 17 with the participation of NA Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong and deputy chairmen of the CEC.

The Central Election Council heard Deputy Chairman and General Secretary of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committee Huynh Dam reviewing the implementation of the consultation rounds and the results of the third consultation at a central level.

After the third consultation conference at a central level, 165 out of 167 candidates have been included in the official list of NA candidates for the 12th NA election. Meanwhile, the official list from localities holds 715 including 276 female candidates.

NA Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong who is also CEC Chairman praised agencies and sub-committees of the CEC, the NA Election Committee as well as provinces and cities for conducting the election preparations in a democratic and lawful manner.

Mr Trong pointed out some urgent tasks that need to be carried out, including handing people’s petitions and denunciations, intensifying propaganda activities, raising vigilance against schemes of sabotage by bad elements and reinforcing election supervision in localities.

At the conference, Head of the Propaganda Sub-Committee Nguyen Van Yeu, Head of the Security Sub-Committee Nguyen Phuc Thanh and Head of the Sub-Committee in charge of handling complaints and denunciations Le Quang Binh reported on the results of implementing election work and devised tasks and orientations for the future. So far, all preparations for the election have been made in an open and lawful manner.
