Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh praised the southern province of Binh Duong for its remarkable economic development achievements during his visit on July 28-29.
While meeting with provincial leaders, Mr Manh said he was impressed by the province’s high and steady economic growth compared to other localities across the country. Its average income per capita last year reached more than VND24 million. Binh Duong was among the 7 localities that contributed enormously to the State budget.
He acknowledged the incentive policies that Binh Duong has introduced to attract investors and motivate its residents to make the most of their creative abilities. Currently, the province has 27 industrial parks, of which 23 are operational. It has so far attracted more than 1,700 foreign investment projects with a total combined capital of over US$10 billion.
He asked the province to develop products of high economic value, reduce the number of industries that use unskilled labour and cause environmental pollution, and train more people to work in hi-tech industries.
The Party leader also acknowledged the province’s efforts to draw up an infrastructure zoning plan for its long-term development, especially its transport system. However, he suggested that Binh Duong and other provinces with a high urbanisation rate should bring in more services and cultural centres to support residents in new urban areas and increase the capacity of urban managers to keep up with economic development.
“Economic development must be closely linked to the settlement of social problems to ensure that there is no a big gap between groups of people from different social sections in the locality,” said Mr Manh.
He reminded Binh Duong to prepare well for the upcoming grassroots-level Party congresses in the lead up to the National Party Congress scheduled for 2011.
During his stay, the Party leader visited a number of businesses, laid a wreath at the provincial Martyrs Cemetery and presented gifts to a number of heroic Vietnamese mothers.
