Trinh Huu and Trinh Diep, a couple of overseas Vietnamese, have been working for NASA for 20 years. Ms Diep works as construction material engineer and Mr Huu is space engineer.

Working together at NASA centre in Huntsville city, Alabama State, Trinh Diep is in charge of experimenting and developing material for rocket engines and Trinh Huu is heading the “LOX-methane” engine research group, which is studying use of oxygen and methane to enable the operation of vehicles on the moon’s surface.

Coming to the US in the 1980s from a small village of Bac Lieu province in Vietnam, Ms Diep said at first she could hardly speak any English word, even the word “Hello”. However, with great effort, she won a BA in Chemistry at Southern Illinois University then progressed onto a DA of Missouri University.

Trinh Huu received a BA in Engineering at Missouri University and a DA in Engineering at Alabama University.

The couple have 3 daughters who are also gifted students studying in the US. The family has kept close contact with relatives in Vietnam and often returns to their home country so as to remind the younger generation of their roots.
