The Vietnamese Students’ Association in Tucson City, Arizona, will hold a Miss Ao Dai Southern Pageant contest to honour Vietnamese traditional culture as well as female Vietnamese students’ self-confidence.
To take part in the event, contestants have to be descended of Vietnamese great-grandparents, and be studying at Arizona universities and high schools in Tucson.
They will compete in three main events, Vietnamese “ao dai”, gala evening clothes, and an interview.
“The ‘ao dai’ plays an important role in this contest because it is a Vietnamese traditional dress and it helps the contestants show their self-confidence”, said Lamiaa Dang, a member of the organising board.
The winner will receive a US$ 1,500 scholarship, and two runner-ups will also receive other scholarships.
