Over 6,500 troops mobilized to support typhoon victims
PANO - 6,514 troops have been mobilized to assist people affected by typhoon Son Tinh, the third storm hitting Vietnam since the beginning of this year, according to the Office of the National Committee for Response to Natural Disasters, and Search and Rescue on July 19.

Apart from troops, the military deployed 101 automobiles and 25 boats for rescue and disaster relief missions.
The military also evacuated 3,187 households with 16,887 people from inundated places to safer areas.
At present, the armed forces of Military Region 4 have maintained on-duty forces at all levels, followed closely developments of the weather in the post-typhoon time, and prepared forces and vehicles for any urgent circumstances as well as gave recommendations to the authorities of typhoon-hit localities on key vulnerable areas and places prone to landslides.
Also according to a report by the Office of the National Committee for Response to Natural Disasters, and Search and Rescue, typhoon Son Tinh destroyed 23 houses, flooded 465 other houses, blew down 31 electricity poles, affected 740ha of aquaculture and more in Northern and North Central provinces.
