Floodwater from the upstream of the Vietnam - Laos border caused the Sim stream to rise very high, causing flooding in Road 521E leading to the center of Muong Lat district.

Lieutenant Colonel Pham Anh Tuan from Defense-Economic Unit 5, Military Region 4 stationed in the area noted that the complicated developments of rains and flooding have temporarily isolated five upper villages and four lower villages of Muong Chanh commune, making travel impossible.

Helping local people move to safe place

In this situation, Muong Chanh commune’s authorities, in coordination with the local armed forces, pro-actively went to locations at risk of landslides to evacuate people to safer places.

On September 22, 18 households located near the Sim stream were moved to the cultural house of Muong Chanh commune, while their property was also brought to safe areas.

At present, functional agencies are mobilizing local people to move to safer places and assigning forces to keeping a close watch around the clock in key areas and spillways along Road 51E to deal with arising circumstances.
