According to reports to the delegation, the Border Guard Command under the provincial Military Command and border posts have strictly observed border control procedures; strengthened patrols, inspections, and management of assigned maritime areas. They have closely monitored and controlled fishing vessels at river mouths and in key areas, promptly detected, prevented, and handled vessels with IUU fishing.

Additionally, they have worked closely with local authorities and relevant forces to intensify information dissemination, inspections, and monitoring; and strictly prohibited vessels without complete documents and required safety equipment from fishing, and rigorously handled violations related to IUU fishing.

During the inspections, the MND delegation inspected the dissemination and implementation of interagency coordination regulations and directives issued by the National Steering Committee and the MND’s Steering Committee on combating IUU fishing.

Concluding the inspecting sessions, Gen. Hoat acknowledged the efforts of Ca Mau border guard officers and soldiers and coordinating forces and praised their attainments in anti-IUU fishing affairs.

He asked them to concentrate their personnel, vehicles and equipment to continue decisively and effectively realizing higher-level directives on IUU fishing combat. He requested units to strictly follow inspection and monitoring procedures using vessel management software; closely manage people and vessels entering and leaving coastal areas; firmly prohibit vessels lacking proper documents from operating at sea; conduct patrols and maintain mobile checkpoints at sea entrances; and strengthen information dissemination efforts, especially targeting fishing vessel owners and captains, to ensure all fishermen are aware of legal provisions on combating IUU fishing.
