Earlier, throughout the night of July 17 and into the early morning of July 18, 350 troops from the Lai Chau provincial armed forces waded through difficult terrain to reach the isolated Chit village (Muong Than commune), safely relocating 95 flood-hit people to the Pac Ta commune’s Primary School. The Military Region 2 Command has ordered units to urgently coordinate in searching for the missing, treating the injured, and restoring traffic lines.

As of 3 p.m. on July 18, the floods in Muong Than commune had left five dead and three missing, isolated 883 households with 4,668 people, and completely swept away 14 houses. Major General Pham Hung Hung requested the forces to prioritize human lives above all else, focusing on rescue missions while ensuring absolute safety for the personnel on duty.
On this occasion, Military Region 2 donated three tons of rice, one ton of dry provisions, and 500 boxes of instant noodles to Muong Than commune, while presenting VND 5 million to each family with casualties, missing members, or completely destroyed houses.

Prolonged heavy rains caused soil and rocks to spill over National Highway 12, burying the family’s under-construction house. The landslide affected an area of roughly 90 square meters, causing 45 square meters of the floor to collapse completely and destroying three walls.

The border guards swiftly arrived at the scene to help move construction materials and household items to safer places. Ka Lang Border Post also warned the family to stay away from the hazardous area while maintaining forces ready in any circumstances.
