At the meeting, the fund’s chairwoman Truong My Hoa, who is the former Vice State President, stressed that the significant and practical care and support from the Ministry of National Defense over the past years have helped the fund to develop strongly and spread in the society. She reported that for 25 years, the fund has granted 125,000 scholarships via four investment projects, namely “Nurturing the future,” “Paving the way to the future,” “Fostering dreams” and "Supporting students.”

Speaking highly of the fund’s projects, programs, and practical facilities carried out over the past 25 years, Defense Minister Phan Van Giang stressed that a number of students, including those from ethnic minority groups, children of troops have overcome difficulties to rise in study and life thanks to the fund. He also applauded the fund for honoring collectives and individuals with great contribution to compatriots in mountainous areas and on islands, creating a wide spread in society.

The defense chief also noted that the military has launched many programs and models to assist local people and they have received high appreciation from local party committees and authorities. He named some, such as “Coast guards supporting fishermen,” “Breeding cows for the poor in border areas,” “House of troops-people ties,” “Connecting the Kinh and other ethnic households,” “Youths and national sea and islands.”

General Giang underlined that yearly, the whole military helps upgrade over 900km of road, irrigation system, sponsors over 3,000 poor students in border areas, opens 130 literary classes for nearly 3,000 people, gives support and builds 3,400 comradeship, great unity houses, and houses for the poor, and mobilizes tens of thousands of troops and vehicles for disaster relief and search and rescue operations, to name but a few. 

Towards the 80th founding anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army and 35th anniversary of the All-People’s Defense Festive Day, the military is pro-actively carrying out a number of meaningful activities, said Defense Minister Phan Van Giang.

At the meeting, Gen. Giang presented the delegation with a painting named “Uncle Ho still marches with us” with a hope that the fund will continue to light up study dreams for more poor students, contributing to building a beautiful and wealthy country.
