Coast Guard Region 1’s ship tows troubled trawler to Con Co Island
PANO - Ship 8004 of Flotilla 11 of the Coast Guard Region 1 Command successfully towed a stranded trawler to Con Co Island.
At 8.30a.m on December 8, while conducting patrol duty at sea, Ship 8004 received an urgent order to head to an area 35 nautical miles Northeast of Con Co Island in Quang Tri province to conduct a rescue operation for the trawler DNa 90403 TS, which had suffered an engine failure and went adrift.

Despite unfavorable weather conditions, Ship 8004 approached the DNa 90403 TS at 9:35a.m. The trawler, captained by Tran Trung Mau from Binh Trieu commune, Thang Binh district of Quang Nam province had 8 crew members aboard. It departed from Da Nang fishing port on November 29. While fishing in the area, the boat's main engine gearbox failed, and the crew was unable to repair it. The captain signaled for help, requesting assistance from the authorities.

Having reached the trawler, Ship 8004’s crew-members encouraged the fishermen, providing them with food and medicines and making preparations for towing the trawler.

Currently, Ship 8004 is towing the DNa 90403 TS back to Con Co Island. The ship is expected to arrive in the island tonight and be handed over to the Quang Tri provincial Border Guard Command.
