PANO – A multi-functional ship of the DN-2000 design numbered 8004 was handed over by Shipbuilding Company 189 under the General Department of Defense Industry to the Vietnam Coast Guard on October 22 in Hai Phong.
The 8004 is the third modern ship of the Vietnam Coast Guard and the second modern ship built by the shipbuilder.

According to leaders of the shipbuilding company, after receiving the order from the General Department of Defense Industry on building a modern ship for the coast guard force, the shipbuilder focused its efforts and assets on designing and building the ship with the aim of ensuring the quality, technical and operational criteria and progress of the project.
The ship is 90.5m in length, 14m in width; its maximum deep-waterline is 4m, and its water displacement is about 2,400 tons. It is operated by 40 crewmen but when it executes rescue missions, it can accommodate 120 people.
It has a landing pad for middle-class helicopters, two solar-fueled lifeboats, two 23mm canons, two 14.5mm guns, modern communications system, and sufficient medical, technical and logistic supplies and equipment. The ship can operate in any weather conditions for 40 consecutive days with its maximum operational range of 5,000 nautical miles.
Experts at the hand-over ceremony said that the ship 8004 has an advanced design and meet all international standards and can conduct a number of missions, including maritime law enforcement in the Vietnam’s waters and protection of national sovereignty over the country’s seas and islands.
