One more set of remains of martyrs was found in Phuoc Yen Hamlet, Quang Tho Commune, Quang Dien District by workers in a road construction unit, bringing the total number of sets of remains found by them to 17.
The Chairman of Quang Dien District People’s Committee on May 26th announced that these martyrs might be soldiers of Unit K10, under Tri Thien Military Zone or Battalion K8, Regiment 3, Division 324, under Corp 2.
In 1968, over 600 soldiers and people in the battalion 8, under Regiment 3, Division 324 backed the unit to withdraw its troops from Hue to Quang Dien to prepare for the second battle in Hue. However, the soldiers were ambushed by the enemy and a fierce battle between the unit and enemy took place there from late April to early May 1968, and many soldiers lost their lives.
Already some sets of remains were buried in K8 Martyrs’ Memorial Temple in Phuoc Yen Hamlet, Quang Tho Commune, Quang Dien District.
The Thua Thien-Hue Provincial Military Command also sent an additional 15 soldiers from Search Group 192, which is in charge of finding martyrs’ graves, to find more martyrs’ graves in the area.
