Reports read that the Central Military Commission and MND led the entire military in a comprehensive and drastic manner to implement the defense and military missions in May. During the month, all defense agencies and military units at all levels strictly maintained the combat readiness posture; thoroughly grasped situations, correctly evaluated situational developments and excellently solved arising issues, particularly those at sea and along the borderline, avoiding passive positions or strategic surprises; seriously implemented higher-authorities’ operational orders as well as projects on building defensive structures and facilities; and completing their organization and staffing plans.
Meanwhile, the Party committees of the agencies and units enhanced political education for troops, focused on building a strong and clean Party organization, a comprehensively strong military unit while actively struggling against wrong views of hostile forces. They also ensured sufficient logistics and good technical conditions of weapons and equipment ready for training missions as well as other regular and unexpected missions.
At the meeting, delegates discussed the national defense and security situation, evaluated potential risks and sought approaches to overcoming difficulties and challenges in an effort to accomplish all defense and military missions in June and the following months of 2018.
Regarding the whole military’s implementation of the defense and military missions in May, the meeting concluded that the Central Military Commission and MND with the aid of under-ministry functional agencies led the whole military to successfully fulfill all assigned tasks.
In order to complete the defense and military missions in June of 2018, all defense and military units should continue to strictly follow the combat readiness regulations; well comprehend the situation, give good advice on situational developments to higher-level leadership so as to deal with them on time, avoiding passive positions or strategic surprises while well preparing and organizing basic-level “Determined to Win” Emulation Congresses, and celebrating 70 years of Uncle Ho’s Call for Patriotic Emulation.
They should also proactively participate in disaster relief and rescue missions as well as social activities in support of the community.
In terms of foreign affairs, delegates at the meeting underscored the preparation of the first level-2 field hospital to be deployed to the UN Peace Keeping Mission in South Sudan and participation in the 17th Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore.
