Program on technical and safety nuclear research reviewed
PANO – The Ministry of National Defense held a conference on September 20 to review the implementation of a technical and safety nuclear research program to prevent and respond to radiation and nuclear incidents in the military in the 2016- 2020 period and orientations for the following years (Program in short).

Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army and Deputy Minister of National Defense Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong chaired the conference.
In a report delivered at the conference, Commander of the Chemical Corps and the Program’s Chairman Major General Ha Van Cu evaluated that the program accomplished all set contents.
Over the past five years, dozens of projects on upgrading radiation reconnaissance system, researching and producing equipment, and building forces to prevent nuclear weapons and to respond to radiation and nuclear incidents have been conducted.
As of the end of 2021, various projects within the Program were honored with the Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Awards, the Military Creative Youth Award, and Military Trade Union Award.
Concluding the conference, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong praised relevant agencies and units for their high sense of responsibility and creativeness in carrying out contents of the Program and their achievements over the past time.
Regarding missions in the coming time, the chief of the General Staff urged units in charge of the Program to promptly complete contents after they are checked as regulated. He asked the Department of Military Science to coordinate with the Program Management Board to guide participating units to complete the contents and develop a plan on building forces and vehicles to respond to chemical, biological, radiation and nuclear incidents in a timely and effective manner.

Together with that, agencies and units were asked to make recommendations to leaders of the Ministry of National Defense to issue orientations for researching and manufacturing products to prevent nuclear weapons and to respond to radiation and nuclear incidents, expand research contents, and focus on producing dual-use products in the fields of chemistry, biology, radiation and nuclear.
