Press and media contribute to mitigating losses in natural disasters
PANO – The Office of the National Committee for Search and Rescue held a conference to roll out the work of information dissemination in 2017 on the afternoon of March 17.
Major General Truong Duc Nghia, Chief of the Search and Rescue Department under the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Head of the Office of the National Committee for Search and Rescue chaired the event with the participation of Major General Ho Ba Vinh, Deputy Head of the Department of Information and Education under the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army as well as representatives of Central- and local-level press and media agencies.

Reports of the Office of the National Committee for Search and Rescue highlighted the good collaboration between the office and press and media agencies in disseminating information about search and rescue in 2016, which has helped improve public awareness of response to natural disasters and accidents as well as of search and rescue work.
The information dissemination also supported the Office of the National Committee for Search and Rescue, and provincial-level subcommittees of natural disaster prevention and search and rescue in directing and instructing localities to perform the work of disaster prevention and search and rescue in a more effective manner, contributing to mitigating human and material losses caused by disasters and accidents to the State and people.
To well perform information and popularization on prevention of natural disasters and work of search and rescue in 2017, the Office of the National Committee for Search and Rescue proposed the press and media to promote dissemination of Party and State guidelines and policies on response to natural disasters as well as of directions and task performance of the office and ministers, sectors and localities before, during and after natural disasters and accidents. In doing so, the press and media can contribute significantly to raising public awareness of proactively prevent natural disasters and accidents.
According to the Office of the National Committee for Search and Rescue, agencies of natural disaster and accident prevention at all levels should mobilize comprehensive strength of all people to disseminate information about natural disaster and accident prevention so as to minimize losses and quickly overcome consequences.
