Over 20,000 troops in HCMC join COVID-19 fight
PANO – This information was revealed at a teleconference held on July 17 to assess the HCM City Military Command’s task performance in the first six months of this year.
In the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, the command has dispatched nearly 20,000 troops and militiamen to quarantine areas, field hospitals, and COVID-19 checkpoints. Meanwhile, disinfectants were sprayed around the city. In addition, the city's armed forces assisted COVID-19-hit citizens through a program known as "Zero VND" supermarket.
In the first half of the year, Ho Chi Minh City Military Command also comprehensively and promptly fulfilled military-defense tasks; its affiliated units maintained combat readiness and ensured security for the 13th National Party Congress and the election of deputies to the municipal People's Council for the 2021-2026 term.
Furthermore, the command also wholeheartedly supported the COVID-19-hit provinces of Long An, Tay Ninh and Binh Phuoc with over VND 3.8 billion, and presented medical supplies and necessities, worth nearly VND 2 billion, to Cambodian armed forces.
Addressing the conference, Chief of the Military Command of Ho Chi Minh City Major General Nguyen Van Nam asked the unit to strictly maintain combat readiness and COVID-19 prevention and control, closely follow arisings situations and actively take part in the fight against the pandemic when needed. In addition, they should inquire after and encourage COVID-19 frontline troops to perform their assigned tasks.
