MND delegation inspects Lang Son’s fight against smuggling
PANO – A working delegation of Steering Board 1389 of the Ministry of National Defense (MND), led by Senior Lieutenant General Le Chiem, Deputy Defense Minister, on January 12 inspected the work of combating smuggling, trade fraud, and fake goods at the Lang Son provincial Border Guard and Military Commands.

According to the provincial Border Guard Command’s report, the situation of drug and human trafficking across the border between Vietnam and China remains complicated with an increasing number of cases. Furthermore, armed criminals employed new tricks to fight back the border guard force when discovered or chased.
Last year, the province’s border guards captured dozens of suspects, seizing 45kg of drugs of various kinds, around 6kg of heroin, 1,186kg of firecrackers, over VND 1 billion of fake money, and other exhibits. The force worked closely with local customs and police forces to deal with smuggling and trade fraud cases.
Having inspected on the spot, the Deputy Defense Minister applauded the province’s border guard force for their achievements and asked border troops, police, customs, market management forces to strengthen their cooperation. Meanwhile, the provincial Military Party Committee was requested to thoroughly grasp and well implement the instructions on promoting the fight against drugs and human trafficking, trade fraud, to further raise its troops’ political stance, to update themselves with more new equipment and vehicles, and practice scenarios to ensure security during the coming Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday.
On the occasion, the delegation also visited and presented gifts to troops of Huu Nghi (Friendship) International Border Gate and Tan Thanh Border Gate Border Posts.
