Present at the meeting were Defense Minister, General Ngo Xuan Lich; former Defense Ministers, General Pham Van Tra and General Phung Quang Thanh; former Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, Lieutenant General Dang Quan Thuy; Chief of the General Staff and Deputy Defense Minister, Sr. Lt. Gen. Phan Van Giang; and other former leaders of the Ministry of National Defense and the General Staff.

Former Politburo member, former State President and former Defense Minister, General Le Duc Anh sent congratulation flowers to the meeting.

In his speech, General Giang expressed gratitude to generations of the General Staff cadres, heroes, martyrs and national contributors. He also sent best regards to families of absent generals, officers, non-commissioned officers, workers and soldiers of the agency.

General Giang briefed delegates on major regional and international situations, the country’s political situation and socio-economic development as well as the prominent outcomes of the agency’s military-defense task performance over the past time.

Accordingly, the General Staff has always actively studied, forecast and evaluated military-defense situations to make timely recommendations to the Party, State, Central Military Commission and Ministry of National Defense for handling. It has also directed affiliated agencies and units to strictly implement combat readiness missions at all levels, improve quality of training and regularity-building while observing military discipline, meeting the requirements of military building and Fatherland protection in the current period.

Highlighting the presence of the delegates, General Giang emphasized the practical significance of the meeting, adding that it helped boost solidarity among generations of the agency's officers and soldiers, raise awareness of the agency’s history of combat and development, and encourage its troops to bring into play its glorious tradition and do their best to fulfill all assigned missions.
