Former General Staff’s officers gathered in Ho Chi Minh City
PANO – The General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army held a get-together on September 5 in Ho Chi Minh City for its former officers in commemoration of its 73rd founding anniversary (September 7).
Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Member of the Central Military Commission, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Defense Minister, chaired the meeting.

The event also saw the participation of former member of the Secretariat of the Central Party Committee, former permanent member of the Central Military Commission and former Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army General Le Van Dung; former Deputy Defense Minister, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Cung; Deputy Chief of the General Staff, Senior Lieutenant General Pham Ngoc Minh and other senior current and former leaders of the General Staff.
During the meeting, participants recalled glorious traditions of the General Staff. General Giang inquired after former senior leaders and expressed deep thanks to war martyrs and national contributors. He also briefed delegates on the military’s task performance, underlining that the General Staff always actively grasped situations to make timely recommendations to the Party, State and Central Military Commission as well as the Ministry of National Defense.
In addition, the General Staff also instructed affiliated units to strictly maintain combat readiness postures at all levels, further improve training quality and observe military discipline, meeting requirements in building the military and protecting the nation in the current context.
