Accordingly, the General Staff has directed units in the whole military to overcome hardships and challenges to fulfill military-defense tasks following the theme “Improving quality and effectiveness of military exercises and competitions at home and abroad.”
The organ has actively provided advice for the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense to promptly deal with defense-security related issues, sent forces to assist the COVID-19 prevention and control and the search and rescue work. Notably, the General Staff has given timely advice to the defense ministry to establish a steering committee for COVID-19 prevention and control in HCM City and Southern localities.
Military troops have joined hands to assist people in concentrated quarantine areas, field hospitals, and treatment centers for severe COVID-19 patients, to name but a few. In addition, the military medical force has built up thousands of mobile teams to provide COVID-19 vaccination and tests for the locals.
Speaking at the event, General Cuong applauded efforts and achievements of the whole-military units in 2021. He urged them to enhance capacity of forecasting the situations, continue providing timely advice for higher levels to map out appropriate measures to deal with emerging issues.

Also, he asked the units to maintain combat readiness, grasp all situations, collaborate well with the public security force to ensure safety for national and international events that take place in Vietnam.
The deputy defense minister noted that the units should improve their cyber and electronic warfare capabilities, enhance combined training exercises to meet task requirements.
He said that the relevant agencies should direct military schools to enhance training and scientific research quality while building a strong militia force both on land and at sea.
