Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang addresses the event. |
Notably, since 2021, the festival has been actively implemented by the whole-military troops and people nationwide in response to the one-billion-tree planting campaign for the 2021-2025 period, which is initiated by the Prime Minister. Also, it is expected to contribute to socio-economic development, hunger eradication and poverty reduction, and the environmental protection.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang recalled the outcomes of the tree planting festivals over the past time. He highlighted that military units have proactively held tree-planting festivals in their barracks as well as planted and taken care of trees in the forest, where their barracks are stationed, contributing to reducing losses caused by natural disasters, harmonizing the climate, and improving the ecosystem.
The defense minister stressed that, amid the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, the whole-military units have planted over 3 million trees and over 1,800 hectares of forest, a two-times increase in comparison to 2020. In addition, the units have collaborated with the local authorities to take care of green trees, prevent forest fires and fight deforestation.

In 2022, the whole military planned to plant around 3.3 million trees and 2,500 hectares of forest. To fulfill this target, General Giang required the party committees of units at all levels to continue enhancing information dissemination to raise troops’ awareness of the meaning of the tree planting festival, contributing to promoting the movement among them as well as reducing the impacts of climate change and improving living quality.
He noted that the units should choose suitable trees for their areas while actively taking care of forest in the assigned areas, applying technologies and technical advances to improving the tree quality.
After the launching ceremony, General Giang and delegates planted trees inside the barracks of Regiment 916.
