PANO – The Central Military Commission held a meeting on January 27th with 550 high-ranking retired officers in Hanoi.
On behalf of the Central Military Commission, Vice Secretary of the Central Military Commission and Defence Minister General Phung Quang Thanh attended the meeting and extended New Year wishes to the retired officers.
The Defence Minister briefed the participants about major issues on the domestic economy, society, defence, security and defence external activities, as well as international situations. He also clarified central tasks in the Party’s leadership and State’s management on defence and military work, and reported the results of the building of the whole people’s defence posture, and the building and performance of the Army over the past time.
Retired officers at the meeting showed gratitude for the care from the Party, State and Defence for them. They also expressed their trust in the national economic development and defence causes, and gave a number of good ideas for Party building, national development and national defence.
The Defence Minister appreciated their wholehearted ideas and thanked them for their contributions in the past and at present to building a revolutionary, standardized, elite and modern Vietnam People’s Army.
“Your valuable ideas and experience will be very useful for the military to further strengthen national defence and security, as well as to step up the building of the Vietnam People’s Army to meet the requirements of new situations”, he said.
