PANO – Senior Lieutenant-General Nguyen Chi Vinh, Deputy Defence Minister, chaired an online conference on June 13th to summarise defence foreign relations activities in the first six months and deploy task plans toward the rest of 2013.

Under the direct guidelines of the Central Military Commission and the Defence Ministry, defence foreign relations activities were comprehensively carried out and claimed considerable achievements. Through these activities, Vietnam actively boosted friendly ties with other countries, contributing to firmly protecting the national territorial integrity and enhancing the national defence strength.

Besides, the whole-army units also proactively disseminated defence foreign relations activities to help people inside and outside the nation know more about Vietnam’s national defence policy, as well as its increasing responsibility for maintaining peace and stability in the region.

In addition, delegates also pointed out some current shortcomings in conducting defence foreign relations activities over the past months that should be surmounted in the upcoming time.

Addressing the event, General Vinh underlined the importance of defence foreign relations in the new circumstances. Army units should consider it a part of the national construction and protection causes, and continuously diversify methods to popularize the work on local and international means of communications in order to heighten the image and position of Vietnam’s army and country on the international arena.
