PANO - Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, member of the Party Central Committee, permanent member of the Central Military Commission, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Defense Minister, on November 3 inspected Military Region 4’s Division 968 and Army Corps 12’s Brigade 384.

He then worked with the Thua Thien-Hue provincial Military and Border Guard Commands, as part of his ongoing visit to the Central region.

At Division 968, General Giang checked its training quality and combat readiness posture, living conditions of officers and soldiers of Regiment 19 and listened to reports on the unit’s task performance.

Last month alone, Division 968 outstandingly accomplished its training plans, and successfully conducted the Thua Thien-Hue provincial defensive area exercise while strictly observing military disciplines and regulations. Noticeably, the unit mobilized thousands of officers and soldiers to help locals in Quang Binh and Quang Tri provinces surmount consequences of the recent flooding. At present, nearly 600 troops are assisting flood victims of five communes of Cam Lo district, Quang Tri province. Moreover, the unit provided flood victims with 500 kilograms of rice, 800 sets of clothing, free health checkups, and cleaned up environment and water.

Having hailed the division’s great efforts to fulfill all its core missions, General Giang asked its leadership to focus on accomplishing this year’s training plans and on studying and combining its training and combat readiness with its assigned operations in a defensive area.

It was also requested to further educate the unit’s tradition, share good experiences among troops, promote regularity, practice line-up regulations, care for troops’ material and spiritual lives and their families particularly in the coming Lunar New Year. Besides, the division is also requested to well manage weapons and equipment, ensure good training grounds for training and actively cooperate with local Party organizations and authorities and support locals in surmounting natural disasters’ consequences and resuming their routines and production.

At his working sessions with the Thua Thien Hue provincial Military and Border Guard Commands, General Giang acknowledged and commended them for their good performances in recruitment, provincial-level defensive area exercise, natural disaster control, search and rescue. The Border Guard Command was lauded for its comprehensive implementation of border work, mass mobilization task performance, protection of national sovereignty, crime prevention, contributing to maintaining social order, security along the borderline.

The Chief of the General Staff also asked the two commands to follow closely local developments, better play its role as an advisor to local party organizations and authorities on military-defense task and defense of national sovereignty and border security, improve training and combat readiness quality, foster their ties with local people to contribute to local socio-economic development.
