General Ngo Xuan Lich, Defense Minister, made this remark at a meeting on March 16 with leaders of the Air-Defense and Air Force when he led a high-ranking delegation to pay a working visit to the headquarters of the Air-Defense and Air Force.
The high-ranking defense delegation included Senior-Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Chief-of-the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army; Senior-Lieutenant General Pham Ngoc Minh, Deputy-Chief-of-the General Staff; and representatives of under-defense-ministry agencies.
On behalf of the leadership of the Air-Defense and Air Force, the Service Commander, Lieutenant-General Le Huy Vinh reported to the Defense Minister and his entourage the general situation and results of the force’s task performance in the first 3 months of 2018 as well as its central mission in 2018.

According to the report, the whole force has promoted a good combat readiness posture, firmly protected the national airspace, manage well all flights and completed all tasks, including unexpected ones.
Before this year’s training season, the force had carefully drawn up training plans; made good preparations in the fields of technique, logistics, weaponry, equipment and training grounds; promoted troops’ sense of responsibility and resolve to achieve good training results.
General Lich expressed his satisfaction at the positive results of the force in recent time, and encouraged all troops of the Air Defense and Air Force to continue their efforts to complete all assigned tasks in the coming time.
He gave some orientations of task implementation to the leadership of the service, asking leaders at all levels within the service to make positive changes in all aspects; actively brace the situation, well forecast situational developments and effectively advise the Central Military Commission and Defense Ministry on defense and military issues, particularly those relating to air defense and air force; well manage and efficiently exploit available weaponry and equipment while quickly mastering new weapons and equipment; improve the quality of training and ensure absolute safety in training; proactively research and apply fruits of the fourth industrial revolution into the service’s training and combat readiness missions; and strengthen foreign relations and cooperation.
Particularly, the whole service was requested to focus on building strong and clean Party organizations and comprehensively strong units while strengthening unity in order to develop a revolutionary, regular, elite and modern air-defense and air force, meeting the requirement of all tasks in the current context.
The Defense Minister stressed that the Air-Defense and Air Force should play the core role in protecting the Fatherland’s airspace, and be ready to deny any air threats as well as defeat all possible air strikes on the Fatherland in any situations.
