Over the past time, Vietnamese officers participating in U.N. peacekeeping operations have actively carried out their missions and promoted those qualities. According to Political Commissar of the Engineering Company Rotation 2 of Vietnam at the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) Major Nguyen Mau Vu, in spite of carrying out missions in dangerous areas and harsh weather conditions, the personnel of the engineering company have upheld solidarity and shown determination to successfully fulfill assigned missions.

UNISFA was established through United Nations Security Council Resolution 1990 of June 27, 2011 with the mission of protecting civilians in the disputed border areas between North and South Sudan and providing humanitarian aid. After a long-period of thorough preparations, the first Engineering Company of Vietnam was deployed to UNISFA in May, 2022.

Major Vu said that the harsh weather condition in Abyei has made the lack of facilities and equipment more severe since it has bad impacts on the lifespan of equipment and the transportation of spare parts. However, the Vietnamese engineering officers have promoted solidarity and heightened their determination to carry out tasks, and obtained achievements over the past time have proved their capability, responsibility, and professionalism.

In addition, the Vietnamese engineering company has coordinated with the mission's functional agencies and ministries, sectors, authorities, and schools in the Abyei area to conduct various practical activities. The Vietnamese troops have repaired boats for local residents and tables and chairs for schools; provided clean water; organized free health examination, consultation, and medicine presentation; repaired roads and built drainage ditches; erected classrooms.

Those activities have strengthened the good relationship between Vietnamese troops and locals, contributing to popularizing the image of Vietnam, its people, and military to friends around the world.
