Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Altaf, Commanding Officer of Pakistan’s Infantry Battalion, welcomed the Vietnamese delegation and briefed the guests on the unit’s missions. 

At the meeting, the Pakistani officer thanked the Vietnamese Engineering Company for repairing, upgrading, or opening routes in Pakistan’s Infantry Battalion-managed areas in the Northern Sub-region in Abyei to facilitate the unit’s transport of personnel and connection with its stationed areas.

For his part, Lt. Gen. Pham Truong Son expressed delight at visiting the unit and thanked its chain-of-command for the warm reception. The Vietnamese deputy chief of the General Staff emphasized that over the past 50 years since the two countries established bilateral diplomatic ties, Pakistan has always been a close friend and a reliable partner of Vietnam. The relationship between the two countries has obtained encouraging results in different fields, including defense cooperation.

The Vietnamese head of the delegation also took the occasion to thank Pakistan’s Infantry Battalion for its valuable support to the Vietnamese peacekeeping force at UNISFA. He expressed the wish that members of the Engineering Company Rotation 2, Vietnamese officers at the mission, and Pakistan’s Infantry Battalion would support each other to successfully fulfill assigned missions, thus enhancing the Vietnam - Pakistan relationship in general and bilateral defense relations in particular.
