At the handover ceremony

The aid included dry rations, rice, milk, medical equipment and other necessities.

The handover ceremony was held on the evening of February 21 (local time) at Hatay Stadium in Antakya, the capital of Hatay province, Turkey. Hatay Stadium is the place where the SAR mission is temporarily stationed during their duty performance in Turkey.

Vietnamese ambassador to Turkey Do Son Hai; Major General Pham Van Ty, Deputy Chief of the Standing Office of the National Committee for Incident, Disaster Response, and Search and Rescue, Deputy Director of the Search and Rescue Department under the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA), head of the VPA’s SAR mission; Turkish ambassador Hakan Cakil representing Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hatay; and representatives from the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) attended the event.

Addressing the ceremony, Major General Pham Van Ty stressed that the aid demonstrated the sentiment and sharing of the Vietnamese country, people and defense ministry with the Turkish people’s great loss of personnel and assets.

The two sides at the event

The Vietnamese general hoped that Turkey would overcome the consequences of the earthquake soon.

On behalf of Turkey, Ambassador Hakan Cakil expressed deep thanks to the Vietnam People’s Army for their tireless efforts in helping the country to surmount the earthquake aftermath over the past time. He said that these practical gifts will help Turkish people overcome difficulties and losses, adding that the medical equipment will be transported to local hospitals and medical support centers to help treat patients.
