To date, the contingent has recovered 54 victims’ bodies from the rubble and handed them over to local authorities. This result stemed from the tireless efforts of the whole contingent, with significant contribution from the service dog team.
In complicated terrain conditions, the service dogs’ scent detection capabilities helped pinpoint suspected locations, assisting engineering forces to decide appropriate methods, as well as manpower and equipment.
Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodríguez evaluated the Vietnamese contingent’s service dog team as the most effective among the international teams operating at the scene. The Venezuelan leader stated that the tireless sniffing ability of the “four-legged warriors” had brought hope amidst the rubble.
After many working hours, the service dogs are constantly comforted and cared for by their handlers. The “four-legged warriors” also received affection and care from the Vietnamese expatriate community in Venezuela during their visit to the delegation.
