General Nikolai Platonovich Patrushev emphasized the importance of maritime cooperation in deepening bilateral defense ties in line with the Vietnam - Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He noted that cooperation in this field still holds considerable potential for further development.
The two sides agreed that, following the first consultation session held in Vietnam, maritime cooperation has been actively implemented and achieved positive results, contributing significantly to the overall bilateral relationship.
Key areas of cooperation include naval collaboration, shipbuilding, marine scientific research, maritime services, and shipping. The two sides also highlighted cooperation within the framework of the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center, particularly in research on marine and island resources and environment, ecosystem conservation and restoration, and marine environmental protection.
Training cooperation, including the training of naval officers, was identified as a highlight of bilateral relations.
Building on existing results, the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense and the Russian Maritime Board agreed to continue implementing previously agreed cooperation activities, focusing on effectively carrying out signed cooperation agreements, enhancing naval cooperation, expanding training and scientific research, and strengthening maritime transport cooperation.

During the session, the two sides signed and exchanged the Maritime Cooperation Plan in the 2026-2030 period between the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense and the Russian Maritime Board.
