The statement was made by UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Vietnam at a reception given to him by Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, Vietnamese Deputy Defense Minister on January 30.

During the meeting, General Vinh affirmed that the Vietnamese Government and Ministry of National Defense treasure cooperation with the UN in general and UNDP in particular, especially in the defense and security field.

In recent years, the two organizations have cooperated effectively with Vietnam in surmounting the war consequences and assisted the country in joining UN peacekeeping operations. Expressing Vietnam’s aspiration to further cooperate with the UN and UNDP in the coming time, Vinh added that Vietnam is willing to contribute to the UN’s joint activities.

On the occasion, General Vinh asked the UN and UNDP for more assistance in information dissemination to help the international community learn more about Vietnam’s achievements in overcoming war consequences as well as to call for further international support for Vietnam in this area.
