Talks held in preparation for Vietnam-Laos Border Defense Friendship Exchange
PANO – On December 3, a mission of the Quang Tri provincial Border Guard Command, Military Command, and Public Security Department had talks with a Lao delegation to discuss and agree on plans on ensuring security at the Vietnam-Laos Border Defense Friendship Exchange in 2021.
The Vietnamese delegation was led by Commanding Officer of the Quang Tri provincial Border Guard Command Senior Colonel Le Van Phuong, while the Lao side was headed by Commanding Officer of the Savannakhet provincial Military Command Colonel Khamphet Souliyavong.
At the talks, the two sides agreed to foster management and protection of border areas and border gates, maintain political security and public order, combat crime, and prevent illegal border crossing, smuggling, trade fraud, and violations of sovereignty of border areas.
In addition, they will promote sharing of information related to situations in border areas and the COVID-19 pandemic and carry out information dissemination to raise border people’s awareness of the significance of the first Vietnam-Laos Border Defense Friendship Exchange as well as the mission of ensuring security at the event.
Through the activities, the two sides expected to promote the combined strength of the whole political system and people in safeguarding national sovereignty, political security and public order in areas along the shared borderline.

Preventing illegal border crossing coupled with effective COVID-19 prevention and control will contribute to ensuring absolute security at the first Vietnam-Laos Border Defense Friendship Exchange, the two sides agreed.
