Defense ministry marks 60 years of Vietnam-Cuba diplomatic ties
PANO – The Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense (MND) on November 30 in Hanoi held a ceremony to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Cuba diplomatic ties (December 2, 1960-2020).

The event saw the attendance of Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Tran Don, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics Senior Lieutenant General Tran Quang Phuong, and Deputy Chief of the General Staff Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan, and Cuban military attaché to Vietnam Senior Colonel Juan Miguel Garcia Montano.
Recalling the heroic history in the sound comprehensive cooperation and solidarity between the two Parties, States, militaries, and peoples over the past 60 years, General Don held that Vietnam and Cuba have enjoyed effective and practical defense cooperation, recognizing it as an important pillar in the bilateral partnership.
Regarding defense cooperation, the two militaries have signed many important agreements, maintained high-ranking delegation exchanges while promoting cooperation in many other fields, contributing to enhancing military power and defense capability in order to firmly protect each country.
On this occasion, the Deputy Defense Minister expressed his thanks to the Cuban side for their support to the country in COVID-19 prevention and control work. The general further said Cuba is the very first country to send medical experts to Vietnam, showing mutual sympathy and solidarity and committed to further boosting the bilateral defense cooperation despite the pandemic.
For his part, Senior Colonel Juan Miguel Garcia Montano expressed his delight at the close friendship and cooperation between the two countries over the past 60 years and pledged to make more effective contributions to the sound solidarity between Vietnam and Cuba, including defense cooperation.
