At the reception, General Giang congratulated Ambassador Giorgio Aliberti on his successful term in Vietnam, contributing to promoting the Vietnam - E.U. relations in general, and the bilateral defense ties in particular.
General Giang affirmed that the Vietnam - E.U. relationship has been maintained by the two sides’ leaders, reflected in Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s business trip in December 2022 to attend the summit celebrating 45 years of ASEAN - E.U. relations. The visit contributed to effectively boosting ASEAN - E.U. relations in many fields, such as economy, trade, among others.
The defense minister hailed the outgoing ambassador’s efforts over the past time, especially in supporting the country to remove the E.U.’s yellow card warning on Vietnamese seafood products.

During the meeting, General Giang affirmed that over the past years, the defense cooperation between the two sides has been implemented in accordance with the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) and an agreement on the establishment of a framework for Vietnam’s participation in crisis management activities of the E.U. (FPA).
Meanwhile, the bilateral defense cooperation has reached positive outcomes in many fields, such as the third Vietnam - E.U. Defense Security Dialogue in May 2023, cooperation in peacekeeping operations and overcoming war aftermath. Especially, in peacekeeping operations, E.U. has supported Vietnam to send two officers to the E.U. Training Mission in the Central African Republic, while sending E.U. experts to work with the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations since 2019.
General Giang hoped that in the new position, Ambassador Giorgio Aliberti would further achieve more successes, contributing to bolstering cooperation between E.U. and countries in the region, including Vietnam, for peace, stability, cooperation and development of the region and the world.
For his part, Ambassador Giorgio Aliberti expressed his honor to meet with General Giang, emphasizing his sentiment towards Vietnamese country and people. He also affirmed that the Vietnam - E.U. relationship has developed strongly over the past time, and has more potential to further develop. On the occasion, he sent his sincere thanks to Vietnam and the Vietnamese Defense Ministry for supporting him during his working term in the country, affirming that E.U. always stands side by side with the Vietnamese government in all fields.
