In the framework of the event, on November 8, in Hanoi, the German Directorate-General for Legal Affairs had talks with the Department of Legal Affairs under the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense. At the talks, both sides discussed issues related to the finalizing of military and defense legal systems of the two countries; building of a number of legal documents related to military, defense, U.N. peacekeeping operations, and civil defense.

Speaking at the event, Director of the Department of Legal Affairs Major General Han Manh Thang briefed the German delegates on the law making concerning Vietnam’s military and defense, aiming to establish a firm legal basis to carry out military and defense tasks, combat all plots of the hostile forces, contributing to firmly protecting national sovereignty, Party, State and people.

For his part, Mr. Stefan Sohm, Deputy Director of the Directorate-General for Legal Affairs under the German Ministry of National Defense cum head of the German delegation, shared experience in the implementation of U.N. peacekeeping missions, as well as experience in building legal corridor for regional and world peace safeguarding activities.
Both sides also voiced the need to sign an international agreement at the defense ministry level on cooperation in the field of military and defense law, while sharing some key cooperation contents.
Regarding cooperation orientations in the time ahead, the two sides agreed to further promote cooperative partnership, focusing on some fields like delegation exchange, sharing experience in this fields, training and education, building international agreement in the fields of military and defense.
