ASEAN Air Forces’ Education and Training Working Group meets virtually
PANO - The seventh meeting of the ASEAN Air Forces’ Education and Training Working Group (AAFET-WG 7) took place virtually on October 6 under the chair of Colonel La Dai Phong, Deputy Chief of the Air Defense - Air Force Service of Vietnam.
Present at the meeting in Hanoi were defense and air force attachés from the other nine ASEAN countries to Vietnam.
This is the first time such an online meeting has been held due to the impacts of the complicated COVID-19 pandemic.
The meeting aims to make preparations for the upcoming seventh ASEAN Air Chiefs’ Conference (AACC-17).
At the virtual meeting, ASEAN air force representatives reviewed comments and completed the ASEAN air forces’ regulations on humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. They exchanged expertise on flight safety assurance and made a preparatory plan for a field drill on humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, which is scheduled to be hosted by Thailand next year. They also gave introductions on practicing the regulations on random mid-air collision avoidance.
At the AACC-9 in 2012, the air force of Malaysia initiated the organization of a meeting of the ASEAN Air Forces’ Education and Training Working Group to discuss cooperation programs amongst ASEAN air forces.
The first meeting of the ASEAN Air Forces’ Education and Training Working Group was held in Myanmar in 2014.
