PANO – Senior officials of member countries of the Memorandum of Understanding on Drug Control in the Greater Mekong sub-region reached in 1993 (MOU 1993) met in the Vietnam capital city of Hanoi on May 19th.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Director of the General Department of Police under the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security stressed that the meeting aims to exchange information and experience on the individual countries' drug control results. Besides, participants also discuss and adopt strategic solutions on drug control so as to improve the effectiveness of bilateral and multilateral cooperative mechanisms in the sub-region.

During the two-day event, delegates focus on reviewing the results of MOU 1993's implementation, the sub-region's action plan, achievements at the ministerial-level meeting in 2013 in Myanmar and the senior officials meeting in 2014 in China, discuss solutions and initiatives to enhance regional drug control and complete documents for the ministerial-level meeting on May 21st.

Created in 1993, the MOU partners include Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam, as part of the regional countries' strong pledges to collaborate in drug prevention.
