At the reception, Minister Son stated his wish to see Ambassador Knapper make more contribution to the Vietnam - U.S. comprehensive partnership in an effective and practical manner.

Meanwhile, he asked the U.S. diplomat to coordinate with the Vietnamese side to intensify the exchange of visits between the two countries’ senior leaders in 2022, as well as delegations and meetings at all levels and channels, including the Party, National Assembly and people-to-people diplomacy.

Regarding the issue of Ukraine, the minister reaffirmed Vietnam’s consistent stance that international disputes and disagreements should be settled via peaceful measures following the fundamental principles of the United Nations (U.N.) Charter and international laws, underscoring the need to ensure the safety of citizens, especially Vietnamese people in Ukraine.

For regional situations, the two sides highlighted the importance of international law observance, including the U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982, and agreed to promote coordination in regional cooperation frameworks, particularly those of ASEAN and the Mekong Sub-region.
