At the talks, Deputy PM and FM Minh and Swiss FM Ignazio Cassis agreed to continue boosting delegation exchange at the high level and well organize activities to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries (1971-2021).

The two officials rejoiced at the fruitful developments in the bilateral commercial ties and reached consensus on orientations to boost economic and trade relations. These include accelerating the signing of a free trade agreement between Vietnam and the European Free Trade Association to support the two economies and deal with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

For his part, Swiss FM Ignazio Cassis lauded Vietnam’s efforts in performing its ASEAN Chairmanship and non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council amidst the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. He said the international community would learn Vietnam’s experience in fighting the pandemic.

In turn, Deputy PM and FM Minh spoke highly of Switzerland’s commitment to funding international cooperation in preventing, controlling and mitigating the impact of the COVID-19, saying that Vietnam is ready to join the European country’s efforts against the pandemic.

The two officials reaffirmed that they shared the same views on global issues such as maintaining peace, stability and observing international law as well as implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. They also agreed to enhance coordination in optimizing cooperation potential between ASEAN and Switzerland in 2020 when Vietnam serves as ASEAN Chair.
